MANAMA: The nature of the new financial environment in the wake of the credit crisis and the global financial collapse will be one of the main topics at the third Bahrain World Economic Summit (BWES).
The two-day summit, which opens at the Ritz Carlton Bahrain Hotel and Spa on October 26 is expected to attract more than 300 delegates from across the region and Europe, well up on last year's attendance of 200.
Experts from around the world, including representatives of government ministries and leading authorities on economics and finance have already agreed to speak at the event.
The forum's chairman is Housing Minister Shaikh Ibrahim bin Khalifa bin Ali Al Khalifa and president is Kuwait Finance House-Bahrain head of project development Osama Al Khajah.
Local speakers include a number of government ministers, Gulf Finance House chairman Esam Janahi and Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry chairman Dr Essam Fakhro.
"This will be an opportunity for leading businessmen and government officials from the Gulf and Europe to come together to debate the way forward in the wake of the economic slowdown and will also provide an opportunity to attract businesses to Bahrain," said BWES general secretary Salam Sheiba.
"The forum will see debates on a wide range of subjects from globalisation and Islamic banking to the future development of the oil and gas industry, the importance of the logistics industry to an examination of the existing Bahraini legal to the role of sport and the development of medical technology.
